2018 - 2019 Red Door Programs

All of our programs follow the Developmentally Appropriate Practices of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as well as the Early Learning Standards established by the Commonwealth of PA.

PRIMER (3-4 Years)

Our focus will be teaching children, shapes, numbers, colors, and letter recognition, pre-writing skills and phonemic awareness. These areas of focus will be integrated daily into our project based units of study so students can explore them in an intentional and meaningful way. Our curriculum aligns to the standards for Early Childhood Education. It has been approved by the Department of Education.

Project Based Learning– Each unit of study will be planned using an interdisciplinary approach – all domains will be integrated within the unit and activities/experiences will vary from day to day [though at times there will be a need for lessons outside of the unit of study as dictated by the needs of the group]. Every day there will be a read aloud during PBL time, in addition to a mix of teacher directed and child directed activities with instruction in both whole and small groups, as well as frequent opportunities for independent work that will be compiled in the portfolio culminating each unit of study. Read alouds will be a mix of fiction and nonfiction. Math related books read aloud by a teacher will usually have students working along independently or with a partner with manipulatives/dry erase boards while another teacher circulates and works one-on-one with students. Interactive shared group reads will be content related and have a focus in phonics. Project based lessons will include math, fine motor, language development, socialization, science, social studies, creative expression (through art, music, and movement), and fine/gross motor development, as well as executive functioning and resilience development. We will be utilizing Big Day for Pre-K to assist in planning our course outlines and thematic units according to the standards.

We will teach children how to decode words, and teach sight word recognition. These areas of focus will be integrated daily into our project based units of study so students can explore them in an intentional and meaningful way. K-KIDS (5-6 Years)

Our focus will be to build independence and a love for learning. We will provide opportunity for discovery learning throughout our project based themes. Explicit phonics instruction, age appropriate concepts of math, as well as writing will be the focus of our units. Students can explore through guided centers and small groups as we work to develop skills and portfolios surrounding Big Ideas. This program works in conjunction with the Southern Lehigh half day Kindergarten Program to create a full day learning experience.
